THE STORY OF A BATBOY-TURNED-NY YANKEES-TEAM-CONSULTANT COMES TO THE ARGYLE THEATRE

Oceanside High School theatre students bring Ray Negron’s storied career with the Bronx Bombers to life
"BABYLON — A unique Yankees story playing at the Argyle Theatre in Babylon is the stuff dreams are made for baseball fans.
Making those dreams a reality, theatre students from Oceanside High School are rehearsing for a one-day performance of the stage play "Batboy: A Yankee Miracle," based on the life of New York Yankees special consultant Ray Negron.
"I give glory to the Bronx Bombers because they, in essence, gave me some soul," he said.
In 1973, a 17-year-old Negron was caught spraying graffiti on the hallowed walls of Yankee Stadium by non-other than Yankee owner George Steinbrenner. Negron was then taken into custody and held at the stadium holding cell, and from that day, his life with the Yankees began.
"For whatever the reason, Mr. Steinbrenner came back and got me and took me to the Yankee locker room. And that night, I was a batboy for the NY Yankees and the rest was history because that started the whole parallel of my life with the Bronx Bombers and the boss," he said.
Negron has been in the offices ever since, growing up in rank to his current position. After reading one of the several books he has written about his life, owners of the newly-renovated Argyle Theatre didn't hesitate to put on the play.
“I was brought to tears numerous times reading his book,” said Mark Perlman, co-owner of the Argyle Theatre.
If the show hits a home run on June 24, Negron hopes to bring the play to Broadway."
